Dental Sterilization Technician

This course introduces trainees to the fundamental principles and responsibilities of infection prevention and control in the dental office setting. It focuses on developing a practical understanding of instrument processing, sterilization protocols, operatory preparation, safe handling of contaminated items, and professional standards required to support patient and staff safety.

These concepts are covered in the four (4) chapters below, followed by a quiz reviewing content from all of the chapters.

Trainees must complete a 32-hour dental office practicum afterwards as part of the course requirements. This practicum allows trainees to observe, practice, and demonstrate essential sterilization and infection control skills in a real clinical environment under the supervision of a dentist and dental office staff.

Upon successful completion of the course and practicum, the trainee should be competent to work as a dental sterilization support member in a dental office, assisting with sterilization workflows, infection prevention procedures, and clinical support duties within the scope of their training.
